Home automation with Home-Assistant and Raspberry Pi Zero – Part 1: Hardware

1 minute read

So a few weeks ago I managed to get my hands on a cute little Raspberry Pi Zero. I didn’t have a plan what to do with it, but since it was cheap (round about 10€) I simply couldn’t resist ordering one.

At first I wanted to build a smart mirror but then I decided to build something cheaper because observation mirrors are way to expensive and I didn’t have a spare LED-TV lying around. After stumbling around the internet I found this cool project called home-assistant.

So home automation it was….

Hardware

Must have:

Optional:

  • USB-Hub (since the Pi Zero only has one free USB Port)
  • OTG Adapter (for the Wifi-dongle)
  • Case for the Raspberry Pi Zero
  • Tools
  • Soldering Iron
  • Pincers
  • Screwdriver

The next part is going to show you how to assemble the circuit board.
